How to Translate Your Cafe24 Store for International Customers (2026 Guide)

Cafe24 is the platform behind around two million Korean online stores, from K-beauty brands to fashion labels and food companies. If you sell on Cafe24 and want customers abroad, language is the first wall you hit. A store that only speaks Korean is unreadable to most of the world’s shoppers.

This guide shows how to translate your Cafe24 store into other languages, what gets translated, and how to handle the product images that Korean stores depend on.

Why Cafe24 stores need translation

Demand for Korean beauty, fashion, and food products is strong abroad. Most Cafe24 stores are still Korean-only, which means:

  • A Japanese shopper who finds your brand on Instagram lands on a page they cannot read and leaves
  • An English-speaking customer cannot tell which product is which, let alone check ingredients
  • Money spent on overseas ads sends people to a store they cannot use

Translation fixes all three. Visitors read your store in their language, and your marketing spend stops leaking.

Your options on Cafe24

Cafe24 offers its own global service. It builds a separate storefront per language, with automatic translation, local payment, and shipping integration. That works well if you want a fully separate store for each market. The trade-off is that each language mall is its own storefront to set up and keep in sync with the Korean one.

Proxylang takes the other approach. It translates the store you already have, in place, from one script tag. There is no second storefront to maintain. You add a product in Korean once, and it is translated the first time a visitor opens it in another language.

Step-by-step: translating your Cafe24 store

Step 1: Create your Proxylang account

Go to proxylang.dev/login and sign up. The free plan gives you 2,000 words and one language. No credit card needed.

Step 2: Add your Cafe24 domain

Enter your store address. A custom domain (for example yourbrand.com) or your cafe24.com subdomain both work.

Step 3: Paste the script tag

Cafe24 has a built-in place for header code, so you do not need to edit your design templates.

  1. Copy the one-line script tag from your Proxylang dashboard.
  2. In Cafe24 admin, go to 쇼핑몰 설정 → 기본 설정 → 검색엔진 최적화(SEO) → 고급설정 → 코드 직접입력.
  3. Paste the tag into the HEAD 영역 box. Do this for both PC 쇼핑몰 and 모바일 쇼핑몰.
  4. Click 저장.

The language switcher appears on your store right away. There is a Korean install guide with screenshots if you want to follow along.

Step 4: Choose your target languages

Pick the languages that match where your customers are:

  • Japanese. Japan is one of the biggest markets for Korean online stores.
  • English. Covers the US, UK, Australia, and works as a bridge language elsewhere.
  • Chinese, Simplified and Traditional. Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
  • Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian. Growing markets for K-beauty and K-fashion.

The free plan gives you one language and Lite gives you five. Start and every plan above it let you turn on all 77 at once. Start with one or two and add more as orders come in, since each language spends words from your allowance the first time a shopper opens a page in it.

Step 5: Set up your brand glossary

This step matters more for Korean stores than most. Open the Glossary in your dashboard and add:

  • Your brand name in the form you want customers to see
  • Product line names
  • Ingredient names, especially for skincare
  • Korean terms you want kept as-is, such as “한방” as “Hanbang” rather than a literal translation

Terms on the never-translate list stay exactly as written. Terms with a set translation use that translation every time.

Step 6: Preview and fix

Open your store, switch languages, and click through a few products and the cart. If a translation needs a change, press Escape twice on your site to open the Live Editor, click the text, and edit it in place. Your edit is kept and never overwritten.

What gets translated

Proxylang translates what the visitor sees on the storefront:

  • Product names and descriptions
  • Category pages
  • Navigation, header, and footer
  • Cart page text
  • Pop-ups and announcement bars
  • Board posts, notices, and content pages
  • Page titles and meta descriptions in the browser
  • Review text

Translation happens the first time someone views a page in a new language, and the result is stored. The next visitor gets it from cache.

Image translation for Korean stores

Korean stores rely on long scrolling product images. Ingredient lists, size charts, usage steps, and promotions are all baked into graphics, and a text translator cannot touch them.

Proxylang’s image translation handles this. Because Cafe24’s editor does not let you add attributes to individual images, you pick images one of two ways:

  1. Live Editor. Press Escape twice on your site to open the editor, click Image Translation, and tap the images you want.
  2. Paste image addresses on the Image Translations tab of your domain settings.

The AI reads the Korean text, translates it, and redraws the image in each target language, keeping the fonts, colors, and layout as close to the original as it can. Check the result before you rely on it.

Image translation is on for every plan and runs on prepaid credits. One credit covers one image in one language. Images wider or taller than 2000px cost two, which matters for long scrolling product images. Credits come in packs of 10 for $5 (₩7,000), 50 for $20 (₩28,000), or 100 for $35 (₩49,000), and stay valid for 12 months.

Search engines and Cafe24

Be clear on what translation on Cafe24 does and does not do for search.

The script tag translates pages in the visitor’s browser. Search engine crawlers do not run that script, so Google and Naver keep indexing your Korean pages. Translated pages are for the people who visit, not for separate indexing per language.

Proxylang’s server-side option, which gives each language its own indexable address, is not available on Cafe24. Cafe24’s checkout and payment pages cannot safely run behind another server, so Proxylang keeps Cafe24 stores on the script-tag method. If per-language search rankings are the main goal, Cafe24’s own separate language malls are the route for that.

For most Cafe24 stores this is fine. Overseas traffic usually arrives from social media, marketplaces, influencers, and ads, and those visitors need a store they can read.

Selling to Japan

Japan is the first market most Korean brands go after. A few things help:

  • Detect the visitor’s language. Proxylang picks the language from the visitor’s browser setting, so a Japanese shopper sees Japanese on the first page without touching the switcher.
  • Lock the terms that matter. Put your brand name, line names, and hero ingredients in the glossary so they read the same on every page.
  • Read a few pages yourself. Japanese product copy has its own conventions for politeness and product categories. Fix anything that reads wrong in the Live Editor, and the fix sticks.

Pricing for Cafe24 stores

Proxylang counts words once. A product translated today stays translated and is never billed again, whether ten people or ten thousand read it.

Each plan has a lifetime word allowance and a monthly page view limit:
